 A mild traumatic brain injury (TBI), also known as a concussion, is a brain injury that's usually not life-threatening. It's caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head, or a hit to the body that causes the head and brain to move quickly back and forth.  Causes include being a motor vehicle accident,  being struck by an object,  or a fall.
